Radio show guest on “Between the Keys” with Jed Distler. “Blindfold Test.” WWFM, The Classical Network. New York, NY.

On December 13, 2016 Nadia Shpachenko was the featured guest on The Classical Network WWFM.org, “Between the Keys” show with Jed Distler (a 60 minute show). In this broadcast you can hear selections from Shpachenko’s album Woman at the New Piano – Tom Flaherty’s Part Suite-a, Adam Schoenberg’s Picture Etudes, and Peter Yates’ Finger Songs, and Nadia’s musical conversations with the radio host Jed Distler. This episode includes the discussion of Nadia’s Poetry of Places recital at Bargemusic in New York and her commentary on the various historic performances of Schumann’s Kreisleriana Op. 16, Beethoven’s Sonata No. 31 in A-flat Op. 110, and Debussy’s Estampes.

A quote from the show’s Press Release by Jed Distler: “Nadia is one of our important advocates for new music, her powerful technique and musical intelligence always bring contemporary works to vibrant life. We’ll hear selections from her 2014 Grammy-nominated release Woman at the New Piano by composers Tom Flaherty, Adam Schoenberg and Peter Yates. For our Blindfold Test, Nadia chose excerpts from Schumann’s Kreisleriana Op. 16, Beethoven Piano Sonata No. 31 in A-flat Op. 110, and Debussy’s Estampes. I presented comparative performances. Without knowing the identity of the pianists, Nadia offered her responses to the interpretations, after which I revealed the culprits. I won’t tell you the pianists either; you have to tune in to find out!”
